The Workshop Studio is a project for an artist couple. The studio is in the rear of the property at the base of a hill. The lower area doubles as a required garage and also as a workshop for woodworking and art assembly. The upper rear studio is for writing and sketching Large windows look up the hillside to an inspirational and relaxing garden. A large sliding door at the side of the workshop allows this area to open to a shaded lawn area.

Radiant heating slabs throughout allow comfortable working. Exterior materials are western red cedar, concrete and aluminum framed windows. The floor area, height and slope of the roof all conform to a space defined by the planning code for assessory structures. Within these limitations, a creative space is created that nods to vernacular building types in the area but takes on a character of its own.
